quick mama stage thoughts

hereinevitablydoing the thing where i have multiple essays rotting in the dw drafts and yet something i type up blindly in a fit of fury that is lowkey just a synthesis of things i've tweeted throughout the day manages to get posted before any of them...
anyways i woke up this morning to watch some of the mama performances with foolish, tentative hope and had those dreams promptly dashed. i guess it's because i literally could not care less last year (set during the depths of post izone disbandment depression/kpop disinterest with ive too newly debuted to get invited) so i'd forgotten how much mama has fallen off but god it was bad.
i'm mostly talking about the gg rookie collab stage because that and lesserafim's group stage are the only one's i've watched so far but like. it was seriously so messy. disclaimer btw not blaming any of the girls, if it's not clear i am gg stan gg luvr etc. for life, this is purely an mnet hate post. like they did not plan this at all... almost every single group in the lineup was coming straight from recent promotions (nmixx and kep1er had dice and we fresh stages as recent as a month ago, and lesserafim's literally was performing impurities like. last week) so when would they have had the time to gather together to practice. and it fucking shows in their collab stage...
first of all they seriously couldn't think of any better transition than just having each unit/group walking off and on from straight lines where they just stand there?? i mean like duh because they could not be in the same room to practice but it seriously some of the members look so awkward just standing in the back. and they couldn't even let the girls re-record the backing tracks?? i expected them to lip sync tbh as is the hallmark of 4th gen but to not even do a pre-recorded cover... you could get the same effect from just watching a random play dance from one of those big weekly idol collab episodes or something.
same thing with cheer up x100000 would it have killed mnet to give them one proper group dance. like what's even the point of gathering all these groups together if you're just going to have them circle around each other like a kcon relay stage. i went back to the ioi x twice x gfriend x red velvet into the new world stage from all those years ago just to see what they did and like. you can see them dancing together. as a group. in unison. aka what you would imagine when you announce a collab like this and make it out to be like one of the big acts of the night... shout out to the one knet i saw who really sums up my thoughts: "They could only do this much with such opportunity? Seriously, MAMA, get rekt..."
it also does not help that mnet camerawork is shitty as ever. this is also the complaint i have for lesserafim's stage too like why are they constantly zooming out when the girls are clearly slaying. literally i could care less about some random ass fan or what the stage looks like i want to see my girls!!!!! and i can see why they didn't go for an mma redux performance because i'd be fucking furious if i was giving a performance of a lifetime only for half of it to be shot from the Worst Camera Angles Known to Man. if only they switched the outfits T____T only thing i preferred about mama i think the darker styling for the mma stage made it hard to see what was going on sometimes... but oh well.
still. side bar. it is crazy to me how good lesserafim are. like not surprising crazy because i am chaewonfucker666 and in general know lesserafim can Perform and yet seeing just How Much They Can Perform is kind of insane.
final note i think chaewon should've gotten more lines and screentime in the gg collab :// but what's new with mnet stages... thinking about the cameraman zooming out the moment she got lines in panorama back in mama 2020. i have literally never felt peace...
